Each student will be required to participate in a group presentation and the construction or creation of a group paper. Students will be assigned to one of 8 groups, and each group will have the responsibility of presenting and leading a discussion on one of the books from the reading list. The presentation should last no longer than 20 minutes, and the question and answer session should last for five to ten minutes. The organization and structure of the presentation can be done in a number of different formats.
In previous classes, students have employed either the traditional academic presentation format, workshop, or panel discussion. Some students have used guest speakers who are experts or knowledgeable on the particular topic area covered in the book. Other students have used videos and other technological mediums to convey their messages. Essentially, what I am trying to convey is that creativity is encouraged.
Furthermore, the group will be responsible for developing questions that will elicit interesting and thought-provoking discourse at the end of its presentation. To provide more insight upon the topic area assigned and facilitate enlightening discourse, students are encouraged to provide their classmates with additional readings. Each student in the group will be responsible for some part of the presentation or paper. As noted, students will also be required to turn in a 4-5-page group paper (1 collective paper), which will integrate the material given in the presentation and book. The paper must be in A.P.A. format (e.g., double-spaced, title page, reference page etc.).
